Veterinary Assistant
Hello! My name is Ava Johnson, and I was born and raised near Chicago, Illinois! I recently moved to Indiana as my husband, Luke, is attending Concordia Lutheran Seminary. We have a cat named Royce, or better known as Royce-a-Roo, and we've loved exploring Fort Wayne and all of the towns around it!
Personal Hobbies and Interests
I really enjoy reading, writing, watching movies (especially fantasy and Sci-fi), riding horses, and training and teaching! I also have a special interest in marine mammals!
Favorite Part of My Job
My favorite part of my job is getting to meet so many different people and horses, and no day is the same! I also enjoy learning about different cases, and learning how to improve at my job every day. My absolute favorite kind of cases are anything to do with reproduction and post-partum!
Why I Chose This Profession
Growing up I was horse and animal crazy! My mom used to always say I better end up working with animals "or else..." So, I started riding and working at barns around age 9! I then attended a 4-year equine program for college, then moved to Fort Wayne for my husband's schooling and searched for a job in the equine field. I've really enjoyed learning so much at this job and getting to see the "behind the scenes" of veterinary medicine!
Education
I attended Asbury University from 2021 until 2025! During my time there, I studied equine management and training with a minor in business and completed schooling with a bachelor's degree in equine studies!
Work History
Before working here, at Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital, I worked at Susanna Farms! There I was a head trainer and the summer camp coordinator! I ran the summer camp program, taught lessons, trained and cared for lesson horses, and saddle broke 2 filly's to be used in the program!
