Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital in Columbia City, Indiana is hiring an Equine Technician and Assistant Team Manager. This is a unique, hands-on leadership role inside a working equine veterinary hospital.
This is not a desk job. It is a real, working equine hospital leadership position for someone who thrives on keeping a clinical day running smoothly, developing a strong team, and supporting outstanding patient care.
About the Role
The Equine Technician and Assistant Team Manager leads our technician, assistant, inpatient, ambulatory, and barn support team. The primary responsibility is team coordination and clinical workflow, not full-time technical work. Some hands-on horse handling or technician support may be needed on busy days.

- Schedule technicians and assistants with doctors for daily appointments, hospital work, road calls, procedures, and emergencies
- Coordinate on-call, weekend, and holiday coverage
- Lead the morning technician and assistant team meeting
- Communicate staffing needs, workflow issues, and team concerns to doctors and leadership
Daily Clinical Workflow
- Set the daily hospital board and organize workflow each morning
- Review appointments, hospitalized patients, procedures, and special needs with the team
- Walk through hospital and barn areas to identify tasks and priorities
- Create and assign task lists for inpatient care, treatments, cleaning, and stocking
- Ensure end-of-day handoffs, treatment lists, and vehicle and supply checks are complete
Patient Care and Barn Operations
- Confirm hospitalized patients are properly cared for and treatments are completed
- Keep barn, inpatient, and stall areas organized and running well
- Ensure on-call vehicles and supplies are checked and ready
Team Development
- Support training and development of technicians and assistants
- Hold the team accountable for quality, communication, and reliability
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews
- Help coordinate Northwest Indiana and Valparaiso service days as needed
What We Are Looking For
- Comfortable working around horses every day
- Organized, calm under pressure, and dependable
- Strong communicator with doctors, technicians, and support staff
- Experienced leading or supervising a team respectfully and confidently
- Able to manage shifting priorities in a busy clinical environment
- Genuinely interested in equine veterinary medicine and patient care
Prior equine veterinary experience is strongly preferred. Experience as a veterinary technician, lead technician, barn or farm manager, equine assistant, or in another clinical supervisory role is a strong plus.
Compensation and Schedule
Pay: $20 to $28 per hour depending on experience, leadership ability, and technical skill level
Schedule: Flexible, with some evenings, weekends, holiday coverage, or on-call coordination depending on final role structure
