  • Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital is pleased to offer an externship experience for students currently enrolled in a veterinary or veterinary technician program. Our program is designed to offer students a working clinical experience that will meet the requirements for their degree. With four veterinarians, a board certified surgeon, and five registered veterinary technicians, we offer the chance to learn from a wide variety of individuals. Students will work on a rotational basis with ambulatory and in hospital cases.

Externships can vary in duration according to the students needs. Although we take externs throughout the year, the best time for the experience is January through July. An application needs to be filled out specifying the requested dates of the externship. Fully furnished, individualized on-site complimentary housing is available in the hospital. Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen and bathroom. These living arrangements provide a unique hands-on opportunity to be a part of all emergency cases that enter the hospital.

Students are encouraged to provide their own transportation to the hospital. Those traveling from out of state that will not be driving should fly into Fort Wayne International Airport. Nice jeans, boots, and a scrub top are recommended attire. If visiting during winter months, please bring plenty of warm clothing for going on farm calls.
