4-H Horse and Pony Booster Clinic
Jun 8, 2011
Our 4-H booster vaccination clinic will be held Saturday June 18th here at the Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital. We will be administering Rhino/Influenza boosters prior to the 4-H fairs. The equine herpesvirus (EHV-1) outbreak that has been reported out west is also known as rhinopneumonitis. The vaccine provides the best protection when boostered every 60 days.
Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital recommends that any horses that travel to areas where other horses congregate should definitely booster every 60 days. For additional protection we suggest the following horse management practices:
- Avoid direct contact, especially nose to nose, with other horses.
- Do not share drinking buckets, troughs, or feed pans with other horses.
- If your horse will be stabled in a stall previously occupied by another horse, disinfect the stall first.
These are management practices that are always a good idea to implement. The EHV-1 outbreak raises awareness of the risks of infectious disease. Please use our suggested precautions to keep your horses healthy.
To learn more about the outbreak, view our posting at EHV-1 News.
The 4-H Booster Vaccination clinic is an opportunity to bring your horse into the hospital to receive the vaccine, therefore saving yourself the cost of a farm call. We are waiving the hospital fee so that your only cost is for the vaccination. We want your 4-H fair experience to be a HEALTHY one!
Please call (877) 499-9909 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up for the June 18 clinic.
